With the fantastic weather we enjoy in Clearwater and St. Petersburg year round, pool heaters are a necessary part of owning your own private backyard swimming spot.  Even in you live in the frozen north, sitting in a warm Jacuzzi surrounded by snow is exceptionally appealing.  So come mid-January, or even March, when we’re experiencing temperatures in the 70’s to low 80’s under clear blue skies, it’s a shame when you’re unable to go for a swim.

Whether you already take advantage of pool heaters and need maintenance or repairs, or are considering having one installed, Triangle is the company for you.

Types of Pool Heaters

So you decided that a heating system is the right choice for your Clearwater swimming pool, but what is the right kind for your home?  There are 4 types that may be an option for you:  Electric Resistance, Gas, Heat Pumps, and Solar.

Electric Resistance Pool Heaters

These models use electric current to heat the water by running the electricity through a resistor.  Water is drawn through the pump, passes over the hot resistor, and heads it back into your pool several degrees warmer.  Electric resistance offers advantages such as being inexpensive, quiet, and independent of the weather. However, these are not energy efficient and can be difficult to install.

Gas

This design can run on either propane or natural gas using a combustion chamber.  This heats a series of copper coils which water passes through to be warmed. In the past these were the most popular style, but with the advent of heat pumps and solar units, they are seeing competition today here in Clearwater.

Heat Pumps

Like electric resistance pool heaters, these use electricity to warm water.  Like the heat pump most likely used to heat your St. Petersburg or Clearwater home in the winter, these transfer heat from the air into the unit.  These are rapidly growing in popularity due to their inexpensive operating costs, energy efficiency, and long lifetime.

Solar Heaters

A great addition to St. Petersburg and Clearwater homes, solar units use the power the ample Florida sunshine to keep the water in your backyard oasis comfortably warm.  The solar panels collect the energy from the sun, and then water is pumped through the warmed panels and back into your pool.  The downside to this style system is that it doesn’t work as well on cloudy days, however in Florida, this is rarely an issue.

These are extremely popular pool heaters for St. Petersburg home owners due to their long lifetime, environmentally friendly nature, and no monthly operating costs.
